Our Story
Donald Herman Broeker, loving husband and father, a die hard Cubs fan and a lover of Christ was welcomed home on September 9th, 2021. He passed away in his longtime home of Puyallup, Wa.
Don was born July 20th, 1936 to Lois and Herman Broeker, in Chicago Illinois. When he first met his wife Josie of 64 years for him it was love at first sight. Their first date was at a basketball game after which he stated: “That was the first game I ever attended that I didn't watch.”
He is survived by his three brothers: Rich (Sally) , Joe (Sharon) and Bill (Eddy). Also survived by his four children: Steve (Evelyn), Jeff (Lisa), Gary (Audrey) and Donna (Mario). He delighted in his 16 grandchildren: Desiree, Amber, Robert, Rebecca, Kayla, Karina, Joel, Rachel, Alyssa, Grant, Solomon, Richard, Grace, Ella, Violet and Jarin. He also welcomed to the family great grandchildren: Skyler, Aidan, Tyler, Justice and Anthony. He loved his family well and they loved him.
He was a teacher, tutor and coach. He loved Algebra and was convinced he could persuade others to also. Excelling at “grandpa” jokes was a favorite pastime along with cheering on various sports teams including his beloved Cubs and Bears. Don loved gardening and sharing the fruit of it with those around him. Reading was a favorite pastime, along with crosswords and sudoko. Most importantly he loved God. He served faithfully in his church and loved praying for others. He was a servant to all around him.
While we miss him desperately, we are comforted by the hope that one day we will see him again.
Farewell for now, you ran the race well!
Well done thy good and faithful servant.
